Street Wise Road Safety Week launches in Thailand, promoting safer journeys to school

December 7, 2022

SONGKHLA, Thailand – December 7, 2022

To achieve the target Sustainable Development Goal 3.6 to halve the number of global deaths and injuries from road traffic crashes, the Chevron Street Wise program will celebrate Road Safety Week 2022  in Thailand at  Wichianchom primary school.

This immersive learning week aims to teach students all about road safety and mobility.  The activities include a road safety parade, friendly competitions, and the selection of student ambassadors to advocate for safer roads thanks to a training day with local officials from the Transportation office, the provincial police, and the Department of Disaster Management and Mitigation. Nearly 2000 students will celebrate road safety week.

Untika Inkaew, one of the Master trainers of the program, shares, “our school is aware of the difficult road safety situation outside our grounds. We aim to strengthen the safety of traveling students. We hope to reach all the students in our community. The objective is to make all students aware and behave themselves safely while traveling to school. We wish for all students to grow up safely.”

Safer mobility with the Street Wise program in Thailand:

Chevron Thailand has partnered with AIP Foundation since 2014 to implement the Chevron Street Wise program to create a safer environment for road users – especially young children – through education, awareness-raising, as well as stakeholders and community engagement.

The Chevron Street Wise program is inherently aligned with the Global Plan as part of the Second Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021 – 2030 and Thailand’s National Road Safety plan. At the core of this program, all activities engage our youth to be a part of the solution to empower safer road users. Because safe mobility and easy commuting to school are at the heart of access to education.

“We are proud to collaborate with Chevron to implement the Street Wise program in Thailand. Our youth are the next generation and we must all take actionable steps to ensure that they are safe on their way to and from school,” shares Mirjam Sidik, Chief Executive Officer at AIP Foundation.
