AIP Foundation Policy and Programs Advisor Louise Goldman has been shortlisted for the 2018 Australian Road Research Board (ARRB) Award, which recognizes and celebrates research excellence across the transport sector.

Goldman was nominated for the ‘Knowledge Transfer Commitment’ category of the award, presented in appreciation for a focused commitment towards communicating research outcomes to practitioners and fellow researchers. Goldman was the lead researcher and author of Head First: A case study of Vietnam’s motorcycle helmet campaign, which details the decade-long campaign to secure helmet legislation legislation in Vietnam, and the decade-long implementation effort since. The report is supported by a comprehensive set of case studies, hospital data, and national statistics. Head First was a collaboration with FIA Foundation, who funded and published the case study.

Goldman acknowledges with appreciation the key role played by the AIP Foundation team in Vietnam, who assisted with sourcing interviews, historical information, and implementing actions stated in the report. The strategies and models developed for the report can be applied as a framework for measuring short- and long-term impact, enabling others to better advocate for implementing life-saving road safety policy change.
